A Free Screening of Puccini's La Bohème:
The Opera That Inspired RENT

In preparation for the opening of Gateway's production of Rent , join us, along with the cast of Rent, on their first day of rehearsal as we screen a recorded performance of Puccini's opera La Bohème (starring Anna Netrebko and Piotr Beczala) from the 2012 Salzburg Festival in Austria. Many people may not realize that the 1996 Broadway rock musical Rent by Jonathan Larson is a modern expression of Puccini's famous opera La Bohème.  Now's your chance to see firsthand how Rent incorporates musical themes, plot twists, and even lyrics from the famous opera. At intermission, director Matt Karris will discuss the similarities between the two works and lead a brief audience Q&A.
