What is Rock of Ages?
FAQ
- Q Is Rock of Ages a rock concert?
- A No. Although Rock of Ages is presented in the style of a typical Broadway musical, at times you will feel like you are actually at a rock concert
- Q So then, basically you’re just hearing a bunch of heavy metal songs from the 80s?
- A No, if you check out the song list you’ll see that there are lots of different songs from the 80s incorporated into the show. There are 80s power ballads as well as pop favorites from the era as well.
- Q
Are all the songs performed exactly the way I remember them?
A Sometimes yes, and sometimes no. The show is very cleverly written to incorporate all these songs and let the songs help tell the story. Some are performed in their entirety and other times they fit together in a way that makes total sense in the context of the show.
- Q So, is there dialogue or is it all songs?
- A Mostly songs, but there are some short scenes that help connect it all together.
- Q Ok, so it tells a story.. but is it sappy… or funny?
- A Actually, both. We wouldn’t necessarily call it sappy, but there are some very heartfelt moments as well as lots of comedy and satire throughout. Think This Is Spinal Tap.
- Q So, then it is appropriate for my kids?
- A Not necessarily. There is strong language, and occasional use of four letter words. There are also sexual innuendos and at times the costumes leave little to the imagination.
- Q Hmmm, guess we should leave the little ones home for this one?
- A Probably a good idea.
- Q What is the running time of the show?
- A The show runs about two hours and 40 minutes, including intermission.
