Rachel Armitstead
Director's Asst. & Instructor

Rachel has always loved the performing arts, and began studying dance at the early age of five. When she hit the stage, she knew that she had found a second home. Rachel continued to pursue her love and passion for the performing arts in higher education. She attended California University of Pennsylvania, where she absorbed all that she could about theatre. In addition to theatre, Rachel also studied writing, and through hard work and dedication, was able to publish her novel, The Frenchman, at the age of 18. Rachel graduated with Summa Cum Laude with a BA in Theatre with minors in English Writing and Dance. Three days after graduation, Rachel moved to Long Island, where she had a job at Gateway Playhouse as the Company Management Intern, working alongside colleague Michael Baker. Rachel has been with Gateway for six years now, and has since had many opportunities, including rising to the position of Assistant Company Manager and Casting Assistant, as well as a teacher within the Gateway School for the Performing Arts, piloting such new classes as Commedia dell Arte and Scene Writing for Teens. Rachel has also been involved with Gateway’s Haunted playhouse as the Director of Not-So-Scary for Kids since 2013, as well as the Assistant Director for the Haunt itself.
